Hi all,
Witchers are equipped with a number of items, spells and abilities that make them adept monster hunters and incredibly difficult people to RP. I've created a super basic form for you to opt in/. Feel free to use it, write your own blurb or just PM me during a thread to let me know if something should or should not be detected.
Medallion Detection:
Here is a link to the wiki page page for a comprehensive explanation. Here is a quote that explains the gist of whether your character might make the medallion pulse.
"Medallions vibrate in response to magic in all its forms, including curses, charms, and spells. They also warn of lurking monsters born of magic or magic experimentation. However, witcher medallions are not foolproof, certain monsters such as dopplers and higher vampires remain undetected whenever in range of a medallion."
Scent:
Please let me know a brief description of what your character generally smells like. If something is different and detectable, write it into your tag and Geralt can react.
Pulse Detection/Truth Sensing:
Geralt can easily hear pulses and can use this to figure out if someone is scared/excited etc. He can also use it to hear someone coming.
You can also opt out of him using it to detect if your character is lying. If your character is not a good liar he can sense their pulse not matching their words. If they're a trained liar, he can probably miss this.
Ultra-Hearing:
This is more for characters who are super stealthy, Geralt can hear an elf nocking an arrow deep in the woods and their breath as they do so he has incredibly good hearing and it is hard to sneak up on him.
That said if your character SHOULD be able to, let me know and he won't hear them coming.
Axii:
Once again, a wiki link.
Axii is a hypnotic spell Geralt can cast, when it works he can use it to influence mood or actions. It doesn't seem to be able to work on some characters but because it is Witcher it doesn't explain why this is. I suspect it is not super effective on strong-minded, magical individuals. It works on monsters.
If you would prefer Geralt doesn't use this or you think it shouldn't be effective let me know.
Opt in/out:
Essek Thelyss
Date: 2021-09-11 12:14 am (UTC)Scent: Jasmine and Ozone, with an undercurrent of herbally/earthy like a sage or thyme or tea tree. Sometimes an cold note of menthol or electrical fire.
Pulse Detected (and description): I am 100% fine with him hearing it. To note, Essek is a trained liar, but I am down for Geralt being able to tell unless I make note in the tag otherwise.
Gait/Breathing: Essek has a very light, quiet, and extremely graceful gait when not floating. His breathing is also quiet and light, pretty inaudible by normal standards. He is sneaky when he tries, but not that sneaky. He can totally hear him coming and then his medallion would probably go off because magic would be involved.
Axii: I feel like Essek could resist or be unaffected by this. I am going to say No in general, but I'm always down for plotting it working.
Emil (NieR: Replicant)
Date: 2021-09-11 12:18 am (UTC)Scent: Usually lilac-scented soap. It's nice, okay! If it's different at any point I'll try to remember to mention something.
Pulse Detected: Assuming he's in his GemSci body, Emil has a normal human heartrate. He's excitable though so just assume it picks up when he's chattering away or being anxious about whatever, as he do. In terms of using it to detect lying, Emil doesn't lie so much as gently pivot, but I expect his heart picks up anyway. So detect that if you want!
Gait/Breathing: Yes. He has a light gait and normal breathing, though if he's fearful or anxious he tends to breathe rapid and shallow and may shuffle.
Axii: Yes BUT.... Emil's naturally highly resistant to magic and has the ability to undo powerful magical effects and curses if he's aware of it. If Emil is really distracted or not doing great I could see it working, it really depends and I'm sure if we talk about it if it happens we'll sort it then!
Wanda Maximoff
Date: 2021-09-11 12:45 am (UTC)Scent: Variable, depending on her perfume and shampoo combination. Wanda tends towards darker floral or spicy scents.
Pulse Detected (and description): Go ahead, her basic biology is no different from a regular human. She is a decent enough liar with words but her pulse will tell the truth.
Gait/Breathing: Go ahead!
Axii: He's welcome to try again, but it's still not gonna work.
Konoha (Jinba)

Pulse Detected: Y, she has two large hearts (main in lower body, auxiliary in upper body) that beat in sync and are easy indicators of her state of mind
Gait/Breathing: Y, she is capable of trying to be quiet but she’s still a 1.5t lady with two sets of lungs
Axii: N, the protective wards on the enchanted necklace she wears likely prevents this from affecting her, even if she’s unaware it can do that

Pulse Detected (and description): first of all his pulse matches whatever music is playing second of all geralt probably can't hear it unless he focuses! he might be able to use it to detect lies? but it's different enough from a regular human it might not line up well
Gait/Breathing: Description/Opt out he comes with soundtrack geralt can hear him from a mile away probably
Axii: i can't believe i have to say this but i'm like 75% sure he can resist it because it's too close to his own powers. so it's probably like hypnosis where it only works if connor feels like letting it work.

Pulse Detected (and description): I am absolutely okay with it! I would imagine hers would be slower than a human's since toxins and the like either doesn't affect her or take longer. Gwen does lie and sometimes she's not the best liar, so have at it!
Gait/Breathing: Also fine and like a heartbeat, it's definitely slower than most unless she's exerted then yeah, she breathes heavier

Medallion Trigger: Y
Scent: Blood. Incense. Nothing when he's incorporeal.
Pulse Detected: His corporeal form has a pulse (distant and dampened sounding).
Gait/Breathing: His corporeal form breathes/etc, he can shed his corporeal form and transition fully to a liminal space off his current major physical plane.
Axii: N - And he would be shitty about the attempt.
V
Medallion Trigger: Y
Scent: Library smells. Ink. Paper. Oil lanterns and candles. Alchemical ingredients. Autumn.
Pulse Detected: Is a particularly composed liar.
Gait/Breathing: He can shapeshift. He can be a guy with two legs, he can be a giant spidertaur with eight legs, or he can be a literal shadow (which does not make any noise).
Axii: N - And he would be shitty about the attempt
Lady Ilde
Medallion Trigger: Y
Scent: Perfume, flowers, smoke, fire.
Pulse Detected: She's irrational, so I would say her pulse is an unreliable narrator. Not always wrong, but often ???
Gait/Breathing: She does have a stealth modifier, but I think he'd still catch on to her.
Axii: Maybe??????
Revenant
Date: 2021-09-11 03:31 am (UTC)Scent: Metal, machine oil, blood but obviously not his because he has none. Also... you know. He lives in the sewers. He's a stinky cryptid.
Pulse Detected: laughs in robot
Gait/Breathing: Built for stealth, though his steps are heavy and kind of clunky when he's not trying to be sneaky. When he is being sneaky (e.g. stalking or crouch-walking) he's near silent, but a Witcher could probably still pick up some faint whirring of gears and servos and the like. He's also been described as "skittering" when climbing on walls/ceilings so yeah that's a thing.
Axii: Yes, he's more easily influenced than he'd like to admit. But fair warning, he will absolutely lose his shit if he ever realises Geralt is trying to fuck with his head and will see it as a betrayal.

Pulse Detected (and description): Go for it. In Joric's culture they hate lying so Joric only tells the truth. He sometimes omits things, but never lies when asked a direct question. His pulse is average for a human or maybe slightly faster because he's suited for cold climates so his body temperature is a little higher.
Gait/Breathing: He's like a bull in a china shop. People wearing noise-cancelling headphones on the sky station can hear him.
Axii: N; let's just say the shield the GemSci people put on his mind to stop his rage also blocks this from working.

Pulse Detected: He can totally tell if she's scared or excited. Telling if she's lying would be a bigger challenge. I'd say she's pretty skilled at it, but if we want to do something character driven with that someday, I'm good with it.
Gait/Breathing: He'd be able to hear her. She's still just an average human without supernatural stealth.

Morga (The Arcana)
Date: 2021-09-11 04:55 am (UTC)Scent: Human; mostly earthy/woodsy, old furs/leather with a trace of a campfire/fireplace thanks to living outdoors most of the time or in the little cabin she's been building. Sometimes has a hint of Bird thanks to Jaeger, and depending on the shampoo she uses something floral (light touch of roses?) and/or vanilla.
Pulse Detected (and description): Go wild! She's still 100% human and has the pulse/heartrate to match. She gets excited and (while rare) nervous/frightened just like anyone else. Insofar as lying she isn't a fan of doing it herself but will if she needs to, so she's gotten pretty good at hiding it with one hell of a poker face. I'm 100% willing to make a note when he's able to call her bluffs though!
Call her the hell out do it do itGait/Breathing: Being a hunter for nearly the entirety of her childhood and adult life, Morga's gait is fairly light and incredibly quiet along with her breathing, especially when outdoors. Canon mentions her stalking while she moves around at several points, so think something along those lines. Indoors she (mostly) lets herself be heard, because let's be real here - no one needs to have a heart attack at 3 in the morning when that poor soul is trying to raid the kitchen for something to eat.
Axii: Under normal circumstances I'm gonna go on a limb and say no given how strong-willed she is, BUT should Morga ever wind up going Absolutely Feral in her monster form 👀👀👀👀👀👀
Wave Kieadon
Date: 2021-09-11 05:23 am (UTC)Scent: Juniper and a collection of different herbs, plants, and spices based on what she's been working on lately. He'll def be able to pick up poisonous scents from time to time like hemlock or nightshade sometimes :)
Pulse Detected (and description): Yep, and it's perfectly normal. He'll absolutely be able to tell when she's lying (if her face doesn't give it away first), and he may also notice her pulse jump if/when she uses her surname.
Gait/Breathing: Also normal! One thing he'll probably pick up on fast is that he'll be able to read her breathing just as easily as he can read her pulse. She's not great at hiding things.
Axii: Yes! Though as a heads up, if she realizes he's done it she's going to freak out :')
Shaxx

Pulse Detected (and description): Shaxx has the pulse of a supremely healthy, very athletic person. He generally doesn't lie, and if he tries it, he's so fucking bad at it that Geralt's not going to need his pulse to tell.
Gait/Breathing: Not a stealthy man. He actually is very light and quick for someone of his size. But he also purposefully makes noise when he's walking up behind people most of the time.
Axii: Not going to work. While it possible for Guardians to be controlled, it's only been accomplished by beings way more powerful than Geralt. Sorry, buddy.

Date: 2021-09-11 05:31 am (UTC)Scent: Coffee and some kind of inexpensive aftershave. Occasionally a hint of blood if he's been picking fights.
Pulse Detected (and description): Can definitely hear him coming. He's not going to be able to tell if Simon is lying unless he's feeling really out of sorts.
Gait/Breathing: Simon can be pretty stealthy... for a regular human. Which is not stealthy enough to make a difference.
Axii: Hahaha yeah he's just a guy.
Crow
Date: 2021-09-11 05:43 am (UTC)Scent: Machine oil, something sweet but acrid (a component called Ether), and something distinctly foreign (he's also an Awoken, a fancy space human from a black hole, so he kind of smells like space).
Pulse Detected (and description): Yes, pulse is of a well athletic human male (equivalent anyway). He could probably detect if Crow is lying, but Crow likely wouldn't, he's more of a by omission type at all. (Glint doesn't have a pulse, so he might be able to sneak, but he wouldn't go far from Crow)
Gait/Breathing: Light, stealthy; Crow is clearly trying not to be detected usually. He breathes normally, but holds it when he thinks he's in danger. I'm down with him in general being detected; the only time he might not be would be if he was using void magic stealth to hide himself, and we can work that out case by case.
Axii: I'd prefer this not to be used on him in general, so either it isn't effective or we just don't give Geralt a reason to need to cast it on Crow lol. (Obviously, weird mind bendy shit events are a case by case basis)
Nyx Ulric

Pulse Detected (and description): Yes. Average healthy human male in terms of pulse. Would be very easy to hear him lying.
Gait/Breathing: Like a soldier; in general Nyx doesn't try to be especially quiet or loud. However, in cases of monster hunting or the like, he steps very lightly, and is clearly a trained hunter. He sometimes wears a muffler for his breathing but Geralt can probably hear it just fine.
Axii: I'd prefer it not being used on him, so either the Lucii blessing protects him or we just don't give him a reason to need to use it (again, excepting events where we might want it to happen).
Suguru Getou

Pulse Detected (and description): Description/Opt out Opt out for now. Getou was a cult leader for the past decade and is a skilled liar so I imagine he's real good at masking this.
Gait/Breathing: Description/Opt out Probably fine unless there's some event where cursed energy works again but lbr I'm very lazy about figuring out The Rules of power nerfs so generally speaking, I'm all for Geralt's powers working here!
Axii: N; Getou is a High Level Villain Type so it would take more work. This isn't a hard no though, js.

Pulse Detected: Probably won't tell him much on a regular day since Hide's basically a professional imposter and difficult to rile up besides. High emotion in people around her (primarily negative emotions - hatred, anger, that sort of thing) will get a dramatic spike in pulse even if she doesn't react to it outwardly.
Gait/Breathing: Just as noticeable as any other Average Joe in day-to-day transit, bordering undetectable during shady business. All the sounds will still be there; just very difficult to separate from ambient noise.
Axii: Yes - once. Be warned doing so will have considerable CR consequences in the aftermath and she will take notice if further attempts are made.

Scent: Like flowers, the Silent Princess to be precise
Pulse Detected: Yes, she wouldn't know any way to mask it. She can get excitable when passionate about something so obviously her heart rate would go up.
Gait/Breathing: Yes. This she would have more practice keeping calm because of her royal training. Gait would be more smooth, almost like 'floating,' as is usually joked about with princesses.
Axii: I think she would have a resistance. She has sealing magic and can do shielding magic in past incarnations.
Kainé
Medallion Trigger: Yes, she is basically half-Shade which pretty much counts as a monster. Also in her world, only Shades can cast magic.
Scent: She wears a Lunar Tear in her hair and it's a legendary flower. So there's that, but also she is a very clean person so probably like soaps and shampoos and stuff.
Pulse Detected (and description): Yes. It's probably irregular and he may actually be able to hear like a indistinct whispering maybe? If he's paying enough attention/is in tune with magic. That's basically where Tyrann (her Shade) takes up residence but he's not active personality wise in Noctium because he's an appable character.
Gait/Breathing: Description/Opt out Yes. She has this sauntering walk with heels and her breathing is probably normal. She doesn't usually lie. She tends to speak her mind and is very blunt so she wouldn't be very good at lying if she wanted to.
Axii: Yes, it's worked on her before, but I suspect she could build up a resistance since she's got regenerative abilities already.

Date: 2021-09-18 01:26 am (UTC)Scent: Strange. She smells contradictory, in a way, like fresh earth masking something rotting. A combination of scents that catches someone off guard.
Pulse Detected (and description): She's a practiced liar but not trained. So, in this case, I imagine it'll be a hit or miss thing depending on the lie.
Gait/Breathing: She's about as subtle as a brick through a window. Her stealth is usually a critical failure so, like, have fun with that.
Axii: Yes! She won't be happy about it if she realizes, but I'm fine with her being influenced subtly.
